Anesthesia & Pain Management
The Department of Anesthesia & Pain Management at Peshawar General Hospital comprises two specialized sections: Cardiac Anesthesia and General Anesthesia. The department is staffed with two dedicated Consultant Cardiac Anesthesiologists and a robust General Anesthesia team consisting of three Consultants, five Registrars, and one Medical Officer. This team works collaboratively to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality anesthesia and pain management services across the hospital.

Service Details
In the near future, the department plans to play a leading role in staffing and managing the upcoming Surgical ICU. It will also be an integral part of the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Team for critical emergencies such as Code Blue. Additionally, with the procurement of advanced monitoring and anesthesia equipment, the department will begin providing Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC) for MRI procedures in the Radiology Department.
Departmental Goal
The primary aim of the Department of Anesthesia & Pain Management is to deliver the highest standards of anesthesia services, ensure effective pain management, and support critical resuscitation efforts in emergency scenarios across the hospital.
Departmental Achievements
- 1. Provision of safe and effective anesthesia care across multiple surgical specialties
- 2. Adequate and timely pain management for post-operative patients
- 3. Leadership in emergency respiratory and cardiovascular resuscitation
- 4. Execution of complex peripheral and central line cannulations
- 5. Active support to the Pediatrics Department in neonatal and pediatric emergency care, including ventilation support
- 6. Ongoing education and training of anesthesia technicians and technologists

Dr. Anwar Kamal Pasha – Consultant Anesthesiologist
Through the commitment and coordinated efforts of the entire anesthesia team, Dr. Anwar Kamal Pasha has successfully built a highly proficient department that operates 24/7 to meet the hospital’s surgical and critical care needs. Under his leadership, the Anesthesia Department at PGH has been accredited for Fellowship Training by both the Pakistan Medical & Dental Council and the College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan—an achievement secured within just 1.5 years of his tenure.
