Biography

Dr. Muhammad Usman is a distinguished Professor of Medicine at Khyber Girls Medical College and Hayat Abad Medical Complex in Peshawar. He obtained his MBBS degree from Khyber Medical College, Peshawar, in 1993, followed by the successful completion of his CPSP fellowship examination in March 2002. With a career marked by a diverse array of experiences, Dr. Usman served as an emergency physician and internist at Prince Sultan Hospital in Mulaija Dammam, MOH KSA, for two years on deputation recommended by the Health Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

His professional journey further led him to roles recommended by the KPK Public Service Commission (PSC) as a district medical specialist in 2004. He served as a senior registrar at Gomal Medical College, D.I Khan, from 2005 to 2008, before joining Khyber Girls Medical College, Peshawar, where he currently holds the position of Professor of Medicine and serves as the incharge of the medical “C” unit at Hayat Abad Medical Complex.

Dr. Usman’s contributions extend beyond clinical practice into academia, where he has demonstrated a fervent commitment to medical education and research. He is the founding President of the Pakistan Society of Physicians (PSP), inaugurated in 2018. During his tenure, the PSP organized numerous conferences, symposia, and workshops, fostering academic exchange and collaboration within the medical community.

In the realm of scholarly work, Dr. Usman has authored over 50 original articles and contributed seven editorials to PMDC recognized journals, including a notable piece on COVID-19 titled “Wuhan to Peshawar: A Journey of Endless Challenges.” He currently serves as the Executive Editor of the Khyber Journal of Medical Sciences and has held managing editor positions at both the Khyber Journal of Medical Sciences (KJMS) and Gomal Journal of Medical Sciences (GJMS) in the past.

Dr. Usman’s dedication to medical education is further evident through his roles as a regular examiner for CPSP’s FCPS Part-2 and IMM examinations since 2011, as well as his involvement in overseeing final MBBS examinations at KMU and Riphah University. He has encapsulated his examination experience in the form of a book titled “Talent Hunt in Internal Medicine,” a valuable resource for postgraduates preparing for clinical exams.

As a member of the Board of Studies at KMU, Dr. Usman actively contributes to academic governance, ensuring the maintenance of high educational standards. Outside of his professional endeavors, he engages in co-curricular activities, serving as a Staff Editor of “Havi,” a magazine of Khyber Girls Medical College, and nurturing interests in Urdu and Pashto poetry. Additionally, he has a passion for sports, having captained cricket teams on numerous occasions.

During the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Usman’s leadership shone brightly as he was appointed Chairman of the corona surveillance committee and focal person for COVID-19 at Hayat Abad Medical Complex. Despite contracting moderate to severe COVID-19 pneumonia himself, he displayed resilience and played a pivotal role in organizing and participating in presentations, seminars, and webinars on COVID-19 prevention and management. His innovative approach to corona management garnered praise, including recognition from health authorities during the Prime Minister’s visit to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Dr. Usman’s commitment to both patient care and public health exemplifies his dedication to serving his community and advancing medical knowledge.
